Henderson is the second largest city in Nevada, United States. It is located within the Las Vegas area, with an estimated population of 252,064 in year 2008. The city has a total are of 94.5 square miles, it dwells in the southeast end of the Las Vegas Valley at an elevation of about 1,330 feet.
The City of Henderson was named in honor of Senator Charles B. Henderson. It became well-known during World War II by supplying the city magnesium. The magnesium plant was attracting many individuals to work at the Basic Magnesium Plant, bringing a boom to the area that was blossoming. On the other hand, in 1947, things have changed when magnesium production was no longer needed for defense, and most of the 14,000 employees lost their jobs and were forced to move away.
In 1953, the City of Henderson, Nevada was officially incorporated. With a population of 7,410, Dr. Jim French was selected as the town’s first Mayor then a few months later it was officially declared a city.
